What We Do

The primary focus of the SHRImp (Shrimp Health Resources Improvement) project is shrimp disease risk reduction through improved surveillance, testing and data sharing.

Our Mission

Data sharing for health management issues is a sustainable practice, increases productivity, protects investment and demonstrates transparency.

This health management in livestock via data sharing has been ongoing in different countries, such as in Norway and Chile with salmon, to fight against sea lice and ISAV.  The Covid 19 outbreak is another example on how important it is to share data in order to fight a disease.

Through data sharing among clusters of farmers, farmers are empowered to act fast and apply preventive and biosecurity measures to their farms.

“By introducing data management tools to a food production system we remove the guess work out of farming, it becomes much more predictable over time and farmers can follow their data in ‘real time’ and act quickly.”

— Ralf Onken, Director FAI Farms

Sustainability in shrimp farming

Having a better understanding of diseases and “real time” information on disease dynamics allow farmers to make thoughtful decisions for their shrimp production.

Use and share

Having data regularly and from as many farmer as possible brings a sharper picture of disease spread and impact. It is a powerful insight to make the right decisions on the farm.
